Colombian President Petro compared Netanyahu's actions to Hitler's crimes
Colombian President Gustavo Petro said on May 10 that the name of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could become one of the names of those who carried out the genocide of the peoples of the Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortez and Adolf Hitler, whose victims number in the millions.
"Hernan Cortez carried out a genocide comparable in scale to what Netanyahu committed, or even worse. The number of victims of the murders committed by Hitler and Cortez is in the millions," Petro said on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
Thus, the Colombian leader commented on an article by the Spanish newspaper El País, in which the chairman of the autonomous community of Madrid, Isabel Diaz Ayuso, accused Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum of "expelling" her from the country after the controversy surrounding the conquest of the United States and the figure of conquistador Cortez.
In June 2025, former Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro called on the people of Israel to stop military aggression against Iran and condemned Netanyahu's policies, comparing his actions to Nazism.
On October 7, 2024, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also noted that humanity should stop Netanyahu's actions in the Middle East, just as it once stopped the leader of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler. The Turkish President stressed that Israel is killing not only people, but also humanity's hopes for a brighter future, and this policy of genocide must come to an end.
