- The Deputy Speaker of the Slovak Parliament noted the importance of preserving the tradition of the Victory Day Parade.
Holding a Victory Day parade is important for preserving the memory of future generations. This was stated on May 9 in an interview with Izvestia by the Deputy Speaker of the Slovak Parliament, Tibor Gaspar.
"I am convinced that it is extremely important for future generations that such parades are held so that everyone remembers that what happened 80 years ago should not happen again. The greatest sacrifices were made by the peoples of the former Soviet Union and especially Russia, so it is very important for you to celebrate this holiday in the most dignified way," Gaspar stressed.
According to him, it is important to remember the horrors of the Second World War, as it was a struggle against fascism.
"And today it must be said bluntly that voices that can be called fascist are being heard in Europe again. I believe that when someone glorifies Stepan Bandera, he glorifies fascism. We must send a clear signal that we will not allow the return of those times," the Slovak politician stressed.
Gaspar noted that he had observed military parades in the regions of Russia.
"I saw young people everywhere next to World War II veterans — this is the perfect combination for new generations to understand and see what their grandfathers and loved ones had to go through," said the deputy speaker of the Slovak Parliament.
The parade dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the Victory ended with an aerial part on Red Square to the song "Farewell of the Slavs". Among his guests were veterans, with whom Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke, as well as foreign leaders. After that, they laid flowers at the Grave of the Unknown Soldier and listened to the Russian national anthem performed by a military orchestra.
The event itself involved foot crews of military personnel from military educational institutions and participants in a special operation. Putin, addressing the audience, said that the victory of the Russian Federation has always been and will be for its people.
