German Chancellor Friedrich Merz should hang a photo in his office with the hoisting of the Victory Banner over the Reichstag in 1945. Alexey Pushkov, a member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, wrote about this on May 9.

The senator commented on the news that Merz congratulated the Germans on their liberation from Nazism, without mentioning the liberators themselves.

"The chancellor needs to hang the famous photo of the Red Banner over the Reichstag in his office," he wrote.

According to Pushkov, such a decision will greatly help the chancellor from "political dementia."

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on May 8 that Western countries are irresponsible about the results of the Great Patriotic War (WWII), which are also not so revered. He recalled that it was the result of this historic event that laid the foundation for the entire further development of the world. In his speech, the Russian Foreign Minister also mentioned the German Chancellor, who, according to him, has repeatedly stated his intention to make his army the strongest in Europe again.
