Pulmonologist, head of the polyclinic of the National Research Medical Center "Medical and Rehabilitation Center" of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, doctor of the highest category Eldar Huseynov spoke about the fight against the causative agent of tuberculosis - Koch's bacillus.

Tuberculosis pathogens are a group of bacteria, among which Mycobacterium tuberculosis, or Koch's bacillus, is considered the most dangerous for humans. Its main feature is its high resistance to external conditions, which is why tuberculosis is still a serious global problem.

In an interview with the Health Mail on May 6, the specialist noted that sunlight, boiling and disinfectants effectively destroy tuberculosis bacteria, and high temperatures accelerate the death of Koch's bacillus. According to experts, regular ventilation, wet cleaning and compliance with sanitary standards help reduce the risk of infection.

Doctors also remind you that if you have a cough that lasts more than two to three weeks, you should not postpone a visit to a specialist. They emphasize that annual fluorography remains one of the main ways of early detection of tuberculosis, which is successfully treated with timely diagnosis.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis is highly survivable: they can persist in dust for up to two months, in water for up to five months, and in soil for more than six months. The main route of infection is airborne, so the greatest danger is in closed and poorly ventilated rooms where a person with an active form of the disease is located.

Earlier on May 8, Yana Fomina, a general practitioner at the Russian Gerontological Research and Clinical Center at Pirogov University, told Gazeta.Ru", that if the cough persists for three weeks, it may be a sign of cancer or tuberculosis. The therapist may refer the patient to an otolaryngologist for examination if the cough remains with a clean picture, notes 360.ru .

In April, doctor Andrey Kondrakhin warned that the cause of tuberculosis infection could be a normal handshake if the carrier of the disease coughs into his hand. Hepatitis, cholera, influenza, coronavirus, salmonellosis, intestinal infections, noroviruses, rotaviruses and other diseases that cause diarrhea can also be transmitted in this way, Moscow 24 notes.

Also in April, Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko announced that the incidence of tuberculosis in Russia had dropped below a historical low. He noted that there are also tasks to reduce the incidence of HIV infection and further increase the coverage of the population by testing, the Moscow City News agency reports.

At the same time, psychiatrist Maria Shtan said that tuberculosis can lead to cognitive and mental disorders. Shtan noted that some studies have found a link between the development of severe memory impairment and the toxic manifestation of the tuberculosis process itself.
