The truce announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin in honor of the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War has entered into force. It started at midnight on May 8 and will last until May 10.

Within the designated period, all groups of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation located in the area of the special military operation will completely cease hostilities. In addition, during this period, strikes by missile forces and artillery, high-precision long-range sea-based and air-based weapons, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) will be suspended.

In addition, Russian military personnel will not attack Ukrainian infrastructure facilities associated with the military-industrial complex (MIC) and the armed forces during the truce.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced Putin's decision on the truce on May 8 and 9 in honor of the celebration of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War on May 4. The Defense Ministry expressed the hope that the Ukrainian side would also join the ceasefire. It was clarified that in the event of Kiev's attempts to disrupt the celebration of the 81st anniversary of the Victory, the Russian Army would launch a massive retaliatory missile strike.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said earlier in the day that Russia would not underestimate Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's threat to attack the Victory Day parade in Moscow. The diplomat noted that such threats on a holiday strike with their cynicism only those who do not follow the situation and do not know the mechanics of forming the current Ukrainian authorities and using Ukraine as a tool.
