Representatives of Tehran and Washington are closer to signing a peace agreement than ever before — the parties have agreed on most of the provisions of the draft under discussion. This was reported on May 6 by Al Arabiya TV channel, citing sources from Pakistan.

"Both sides are close to signing a preliminary agreement on ending the war and starting a negotiation process that may take several months," they are quoted as saying on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

The interlocutors of the publication stated that the draft agreement contains clauses on the complete cessation of hostilities, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping and the unblocking of frozen Iranian funds.

It is clarified that the special envoy of US President Donald Trump, Steven Witkoff, has already held indirect talks with representatives of Tehran. The latter, in turn, allegedly even confirmed the lack of desire to possess nuclear weapons.

On the same day, the head of the White House called the export of Iranian nuclear fuel to the United States one of the conditions of a potential deal. Speaking about the text of the agreement, he pointed out the absence of a clause on the use of Tehran's underground facilities and confirmed his intention to ease sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Touching upon the signing procedure itself in the discussions, Trump called it unlikely that his son-in-law, businessman Jared Kushner and Witkoff, would be sent to Iran. The American leader warned that if Tehran does not cooperate, Washington will have to "return to old methods."
