In Russia, a law came into force on May 6 that protects payments provided by the state to disabled people and combat veterans from being written off for debts. This was announced on May 6 by Igor Igoshin, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee for the Protection of Competition.

"Starting from May 6, the norms of federal Law No. 112-FZ dated 04/25/2026 on protection from collection of payments to disabled people and veterans will come into force," the parliamentarian said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He stressed that previously, some compensation paid to people with disabilities and Russians who were disabled due to injury could be recovered as part of enforcement proceedings.

According to Igoshin, after the entry into force of the new bill, situations will be eliminated when bailiffs wrote off funds allocated by the government to purchase equipment necessary for health reasons, as well as to compensate for other expenses.

Alexander Safonov, a professor at the Financial University under the Government of Russia, said on May 1 that veterans and participants of the Great Patriotic War (WWII) can receive an additional pension in May in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory. He stressed that 55 thousand rubles will be awarded to those who worked for at least six months during the war, as well as those awarded orders or medals of the USSR for selfless work during the Second World War and former adult prisoners of concentration camps, prisons and ghettos.
