US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant got into a dispute with British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves during their meeting in Washington, due to disagreements over the conflict in Iran. This is reported by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, citing informed sources.

The British Chancellor arrived in the American capital to attend meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). On the day of the meeting, on April 15, she gave an interview to CNBC, in which she questioned the results of the military operation in the Middle East. Reeves said the goals of the war with Iran "have never been clear."

Such statements provoked a sharp reaction from the Correspondent. According to sources, during a personal meeting that took place on the same day, the American minister criticized Reeves, insisting that joint actions by the United States and Israel had made the world safer.

According to FT, during the conversation, the head of the US Treasury Department did not rule out the possibility of a nuclear strike, which Iran allegedly could have inflicted on London. Reeves responded by expressing outrage at the tone of the conversation and reminded that she was not a subordinate of Bessant.

"This dispute highlights the political differences between Bessant and Reeves over the war, despite the fact that they maintained a strong relationship and worked well together on other issues," the article concluded.

On April 8, the British magazine UnHerd stated that Washington would not be able to regain its authority lost from the war in Iran. This operation, as it was added in the text, caused not so much military damage to the United States as reputational damage. Two days earlier, The i Paper learned of Britain's refusal to provide the United States with access to bases for attacks on the Islamic Republic.

Some time later, on April 26, the head of the White House, Donald Trump, declared his strong disappointment in NATO. He conditioned this attitude towards the North Atlantic Alliance by the fact that its members did not provide the United States with adequate support at the moments when it was needed.
