It became known about the poultry farmers' proposal to set a price fork for C1 eggs
Poultry market participants are discussing with regulators and industry unions the introduction of minimum and maximum prices for category C1 eggs in Russia. This was reported on May 5 by the newspaper Kommersant.
"For the sustainable development of the industry, it is important to maintain a balance of interests of consumers, producers and trade," the Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement.
The ministry added that, together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia and the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia, legislative initiatives are continuing to consolidate the mandatory share of long-term contracts for the supply of food products.
The initiative is being discussed with regulators and relevant associations. The business expects that a price fork will be set for both purchases and retail, which, in their opinion, will help to stabilize the cost of products.
On April 8, Maxim Shaskolsky, head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of the Russian Federation, said that the increase and subsequent decrease in prices for chicken eggs in Russia are related to natural market mechanisms. He explained that after a period of price appreciation, there was a sharp decline, and many manufacturers were on the verge of unprofitability. At the same time, according to him, the industry remains competitive — there are a large number of suppliers and sellers on the market.
