Putin supported Zdunov's nomination for the election of the head of Mordovia

Mordovia has managed to put the regional budget in order: the republic has reduced its debt burden four times and doubled its own revenues. This became known at a meeting between Vladimir Putin and the head of the region, Artyom Zdunov, on May 4. The President appreciated the politician's achievements as head of Mordovia and supported his nomination for the upcoming elections in September. At the same time, local authorities need to resolve demographic issues and complete the construction of a cancer center.

What was discussed at the meeting

The region is successfully coping with reducing the credit burden and putting the local budget in order.: own income has doubled, and debt has been reduced fourfold. Over the past five years, GRP has increased by 17%, and the industrial production index has increased by 34%. Agriculture is also developing in the republic: the head of Mordovia announced an increase in the harvest of cereals and legumes in 2025 to 138%. "Your investments are in good condition, industrial production is growing, and agriculture is recovering. This is the result, of course. In finance, too," the Russian leader appreciated.

Among the problematic topics, the head of Mordovia named public and social infrastructure, the restoration of roads to a standard condition and the resettlement of emergency housing, which, however, is less than in other regions. Meanwhile, the birth rate in the region is lower than the national average. It is also necessary to complete the construction of an oncological center in the region, especially in the context of a sharp increase in the detection of the disease in the republic, the president added.

On a single voting day in September, the election of the heads of regions will be determined in seven regions, including Mordovia. The head of state is pleased with Zdunov's work, as the head of the republic is "generally doing well." Putin wished his interlocutor success. "I am sure that the tasks facing the region will be solved by your team under your leadership. But I repeat once again, for the third time, I say: we need to go to the people, show them the results of our work in previous years, and, of course, consult with the voters about what they consider to be the highest priority," the president summed up.
