Macron did not disclose the reason for his wife's absence from the summit in Yerevan.
On May 3, French President Emmanuel Macron arrived at the EU—Armenia summit in Yerevan alone, unaccompanied by his wife Brigitte.
As Garik Abelian, a correspondent for Izvestia, pointed out to the French president, Brigitte accompanied her husband on a trip last time, so many people were waiting for her this time.
"I'll tell her. Thank you very much, thank you for your kind words, I am very pleased," Macron replied.
At the same time, in an interview with the publication news.am The French leader explained that his wife did not visit Yerevan "due to other circumstances," and therefore apologizes. The politician's wife also "thinks a lot about Armenia" and is mentally in Yerevan.
"Brigitte stayed in Paris due to other circumstances and apologizes. She thinks a lot about Armenia and her thoughts are with you," Macron said.
On April 1, US President Donald Trump ironically declared that Brigitte treats the French leader "extremely badly." Macron, in turn, called the words of the head of the White House "inelegant" and not worthy of an answer.
BMF TV reported on May 26 last year that Brigitte Macron slapped her husband during a visit to Vietnam. Later, the French president explained that it was a joke. French lawyer Francois Danglean noted that the situation between the spouses ridicules the country.
