Read more about Macron's speech to the citizens of France, as well as the reaction to his words in the world, in the Izvestia article.

Macron's address to the nation on March 5

On Wednesday evening, March 5, French President Emmanuel Macron delivered an address to the nation and made a number of statements that provoked a strong reaction in the world. Among them are the following:

— "nuclear umbrella". Macron announced a decision to launch a "strategic debate on the use of Paris' existing nuclear weapons to 'protect' France and all its European allies." According to him, the United States will remain on the side of Europe, but everything can change, so EU countries must be ready to defend themselves. This requires a common "nuclear umbrella";

— Russia is a threat to Europe. The French leader said that Russia poses a threat both to France and to the whole of Europe in the air, social networks and cyberspace. Because of this, Paris will increase spending on weapons. He also noted that other countries should do everything possible for greater security;

— peace in Ukraine and security guarantees. According to Macron, a peace agreement cannot be reached under the "Russian dictate", and there can be no question of Ukraine's surrender. In addition, Macron announced the organization of a meeting of the chiefs of the general staffs of the armed forces of a number of countries that continue to support the Kiev regime, as well as the need to ensure security guarantees for Ukraine. It is planned to achieve this goal by deploying "European forces" in the country, which will not fight on the front line, but will monitor compliance with the agreement after it is signed.

Atomic Ole Lukoye: the reaction of Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova to Macron's speech

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made several statements about Emmanuel Macron's speech. In particular, she noted that his words about nuclear weapons and the impossibility of peace in Ukraine are out of touch with life, and also contradict previous ones.

In addition, she called Macron an "atomic Ole Lukoye" (the fairy-tale character of Hans Christian Andersen, who walked with two umbrellas under his arm), trying to open his "nuclear umbrella" over Europe.

"I listened to it all, looked at him and realized who he reminded me of. Atomic Ole-Lukoye. He is also trying to open an umbrella, only a nuclear one and over Europe," Zakharova said.

Maria Zakharova called on Macron to apologize to the French for lying about past attempts at a settlement in Ukraine and the fate of the Minsk agreements, which Paris itself violated.

"Micron": what does Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev think about the words of the French President

Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev, referring to Macron's words about the "Russian threat," noted that the French leader poses no threat and no one will miss him after his presidency.

"Macron said that Russia has now and for many years to come become a threat to France and Europe in general. The Micron itself, however, does not pose much of a threat. He will disappear forever no later than May 14, 2027 (powers expire in 2027. — Ed.). And he will not be missed," he wrote on the social network X.

Neo-Napoleonic armor: the reaction of Leonid Slutsky, head of the State Duma's International Affairs Committee, to Macron's speech

Leonid Slutsky, head of the State Duma's international Affairs committee and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, said that Emmanuel Macron has been trying on neo-Napoleonic armor for a long time and also dreams of leading the European "war party."

"The statement of the French leader is a manifesto against peacekeeping efforts for the Ukrainian settlement," the deputy noted.

In addition, he drew attention to the fact that the French president's focus was not on the well-being of the country's citizens, but on Russia and the alleged threat posed by it.

"In this, Macron differs little from the nuclear terrorist Zelensky. He's not talking about peace, he's talking about World War III, in which there can be no winners. Macron is a prominent representative of the Western European elite of the last generation, who is unable to solve the country's internal problems, but is trying to "save capital" through ostentatiously harsh foreign policy rhetoric. Such politicians are pushing the world towards a nuclear catastrophe for the sake of their own ambitions. But they will inevitably lose!", concluded Slutsky.

Reaction to Macron's speech in France

Emmanuel Macron's words were reacted to not only in Russia, but also in Europe, in particular, in France itself. Thus, the leader of the Patriots party, Florian Philippot, believes that with his words about the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine and the "Russian threat", the French president is trying to intimidate the citizens of the country.

"Macron's chilling speech tonight! This man wants war. He is overly dramatic in order to prepare the French for something very dirty," Philippot said on the social network X.

Additional burden: what does CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov think about sending European troops to Ukraine

The Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) also expressed his reaction. Imangali Tasmagambetov. In in an interview with Izvestia, he noted that sending military personnel from Europe to Ukraine would create a dangerous situation in the region.

"This is not the first time that European capitals have discussed the possible deployment of military contingents to Ukraine. However, these contingents are still not officially present there. The reason is that this could create a dangerous situation across the region. Moreover, it is unlikely that the population of European countries, tired of the growing negative phenomena in the economy and social sphere, will approve of such a decision by their governments. After all, this will place an additional burden on the shoulders of society, even if these contingents are not involved in offensive operations, but, for example, perform police or surveillance functions.

In "trembling hands": what did Verkhovna Rada deputy Maxim Buzhansky say about the "nuclear umbrella"

Even Maxim Buzhansky, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the ruling Servant of the People party, criticized the words of the French president.

"Macron is a bit like a Facebook patriot (Facebook belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation. — Ed.), who hid from mobilization throughout the war, who, sensing its imminent end, pretentiously declares that he mobilized, only to say later that he also fought. Firmly hoping not to be able to get to the front," Buzhansky wrote on his Telegram channel.

He also wrote that for some in Ukraine, Macron looks like a "hero of hope," but the reality is different.

"Every new year, traditionally, crowds of rampaging migrants burn and smash hundreds of cars of ordinary, law-abiding Parisian taxpayers on the streets of Paris. And no one has ever lifted a finger to try to stop it. The nuclear umbrella in trembling hands, in a word, may not open," he concluded.

Proxy war: a view from the United States on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said yesterday that the conflict in Ukraine is actually a proxy war between Russia and the United States. Rubio also recalled the position of the current US President, Donald Trump, who believes that the Ukrainian conflict has dragged on and reached a dead end for a long time.

At the same time, the Secretary of State criticized US politicians who actively continue to support the Kiev regime and pump it with weapons and money. This cannot be called a strategy, Rubio believes.
