The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of using military force in Cuba to carry out transformations in the country. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on May 2.

"However, the main focus remains on diplomacy and encouraging various changes, especially in the economic sphere," the publication clarifies.

It is noted that such initiatives enjoy the support of the Cuban diaspora in the United States. Among the issues of interest to Washington are also the improvement of Cubans' access to the Internet, the privatization of state-owned enterprises, as well as the possibility of attracting more funds from foreign investors.

"The economic transformations that the United States is promoting in Cuba include the privatization of state—owned enterprises, attracting more foreign investment, improving Cuban citizens' access to the Internet, and the obligation of Cubans to buy American energy," the newspaper reports.

On May 2, Trump announced that the United States could send the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln to the shores of Cuba in order to capture the island. He added that he plans to deal with Cuba "almost immediately" after resolving the issue of a peace agreement with Iran. He added that Cuba "will definitely have problems."

On April 29, Reuters reported that the U.S. Senate had blocked a resolution that would have prohibited Trump from initiating military action against Cuba without congressional approval. It is noted that 51 votes were cast for the rejection of the resolution. Against — 47. The distribution took place "almost entirely along party lines," the agency notes.
