The media reported on the formation of a German tank brigade in Lithuania
Germany is forming a tank brigade in Lithuania and deploying soldiers there, the unit should be ready in 2027. This was reported by the Bild newspaper on May 2.
"Everything that is not nailed down in the Bundeswehr is being transferred to a new brigade," the publication says.
It is noted that Germany is currently sending equipment and personnel to Lithuania to the so-called 45th Tank Brigade, whose headquarters is located in Vilnius. According to the newspaper, Bundeswehr Brigadier General Christoph Huber assumed command.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has decided to deploy 5,000 German soldiers. According to the plan, the unit should be fully operational in 2027.
On the same day, Bloomberg reported that Germany was beginning preparations for a possible war, despite a shortage of funds in the Bundeswehr budget. According to the agency, the plan assumes that in the event of an attack on Europe, Germany's central geographical location and industrial resources will provide it with a strategically important role in supplying troops.
The Reuters news agency reported on April 22 that Germany has unveiled a new military strategy that maintains a target of 260,000 troops and 200,000 reservists in the Bundeswehr. The head of the Russian delegation to the OSCE Security Cooperation Forum, Yulia Zhdanova, said on the same day that European countries are not striving for sustainable peace in the OSCE region, but, on the contrary, are preparing for a large-scale conflict with Russia.
