The Russian Ministry of Transport considers it inappropriate to lower the non-penalized speed limit on highways. This was reported in the press service of the department on April 30.
"The Ministry of Transport does not see the expediency of such changes in legislation and does not support this idea," RIA Novosti quoted the ministry as saying.
At the same time, the press service of the Ministry of Transport noted that they had not received any proposals to reduce the non-fined threshold for speeding on highways.
Earlier that day, the Traffic Management Center announced the technical readiness of the cameras to reduce the non-penalized speed limit from 20 to 2-3 km/h.
Also on April 30, the United Russia party indicated that they were opposed to lowering the non-fined speed limit. Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin stressed that the leadership of the lower house of parliament considers it unacceptable to bring to the agenda the topic of lowering the non-fined threshold for speeding, and this idea will definitely not be supported.
