Starting from May 1, Russia will stop the transit of Kazakh oil to Germany via one of the branches of the Druzhba pipeline, which could have serious consequences for Berlin and Kiev, Politico newspaper reported on April 24.

According to media reports, almost 20% of Kazakhstan's oil is supplied to a large German oil refinery. The company produces 90% of gasoline, aviation kerosene, fuel oil and diesel for Berlin and Brandenburg.

It is assumed that any power outages will benefit the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, which is predicted to win the autumn elections in the eastern lands.

If Russia redirects oil through the Baltic ports, which are constantly under attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Germany will be able to demand that Kiev stop these attacks for the sake of its supplies. Thus, the transit ban can help reduce the number of attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian ports, the article says.

As Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak reported on April 22, in early May, the volumes of Kazakh oil that were previously supplied to Germany through the Druzhba pipeline will be redirected to alternative logistics routes. The Deputy Prime Minister clarified that the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation and Transneft are coordinating the flow redirection process.

On the same day, the head of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Akkenzhenov, announced that the republic had received unofficial information about the impossibility of transit via Druzhba. According to Akkenzhenov, for the next month, the transit of Kazakhstani raw materials along the Atyrau – Samara route, followed by access to Druzhba and supplies to the oil refinery in Shvedta, has been completely reset.
