The State Duma talked about a way to extend rest during the May holidays

To increase your vacation time during the May holidays to 11 days, you need to take a vacation from May 4 to May 8. Ekaterina Stenyakina, a member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, told about this on April 25.

"First, you can apply for a vacation lasting five calendar days, from May 4 to May 8. It will turn out to be a real May vacation — 11 days, but in this case the employee will significantly lose money," she shared in an interview with RIA Novosti.

She explained that there are only 19 working days in May, so taking a vacation on such days is unprofitable, unlike in April, which has 22 working days. Stenyakina stressed that as an alternative, you can take a vacation from April 27 to April 30, thereby the employee will lose less money and rest for 9 days, from April 25 to May 3, and also spend four days of vacation in April.

The parliamentarian recalled that in May 2026, those who work on schedule 5/2 will have three days off on May 1 and Victory Day. According to her, these are the shortest holidays in eight years, and there will be a full working week in between.

Ivan Kurbakov, a lawyer and member of the Russian Bar Association, reminded on April 24 that work on weekends or holidays should be paid in double amounts, or compensated with an additional day off. He also noted that engaging in duties outside of business hours requires mandatory written notification of the employee, and if the employer refuses to charge double the amount, the citizen has the right to go to court.
