On April 24, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni criticized Russia's invitation to the G20 summit.

According to Meloni, it is the Russian leadership that should begin to take action against Western countries to establish relations.

On April 18, Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev reminded that Russia is open to dialogue with European countries on equal terms. He added that the Russian Federation's position is of a principled nature. Meanwhile, Europe is unable to objectively assess Russian interests.

"I think now is the moment when we ask him (Russian President Vladimir Putin. — Ed.) to take steps towards him, and we should not do this in relation to him. I think it's time to demand this from Russia," the ANSA news agency quoted Meloni as saying.

Former British Ambassador to Moscow Anthony Brenton said on March 1 that Western countries made a mistake by cutting off contacts with Russia in 2022 after the start of a special military operation. According to him, a lot of things will need to be recreated, as well as to overcome the deep distrust between the countries.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin said on April 23 that Russia had received an invitation to participate in the G20 summit, which will be held in the United States on December 14-15. He added that the composition of the Russian delegation has not yet been definitively determined.

Later that day, Peskov said that no decision had yet been made on whether Putin would attend the G20 summit. He clarified that the work on the G20 line is ongoing.
