France supports Russia's invitation to the G20 summit
Trade and economic relations with Moscow should be resumed, and Russian President Vladimir Putin should be invited to the G20 summit in Miami. This was announced on April 24 by the leader of the French right-wing party "Patriots" Florian Philippot.
"He (US President Donald Trump. — Ed.) is absolutely right! <...> We still have to negotiate with Russia, resume normal trade with it, and also abandon this stupid belligerent policy towards Moscow!" the French politician wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
He also did not rule out that politicians such as French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen may negatively react to the proposal of the American leader.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on April 24 that Russia would in any case be properly represented at the G20 summit. He also stressed that the country still attaches great importance to the work within the framework of the G20.
The Washington Post reported on April 23 that Trump intends to invite the Russian president to the G20 summit. It is noted that no official invitation has been sent at the moment, however, since Russia is a member of the intergovernmental forum, it will be invited to ministerial meetings, as well as to the leaders' summit. Trump stressed that Putin's presence at the summit would be useful.
