In Russia, in the third quarter of 2026, it is planned to approve the national standard (GOST), which will consolidate the criteria for domestic beer. This was announced on April 22 by Maxim Protasov, head of Roskachestvo, at the Izvestia News Center at a press conference dedicated to the launch of the Russian Beer Days campaign.

"The key solution is to consolidate the criteria of Russian beer in the guest list," he said.

According to him, the document will be approved by Rosstandart and will become a single guideline that sets out transparent and understandable requirements for products.

The expert explained that it is proposed to lay two groups of criteria in the basis of GOST. The first is related to the origin of the raw materials, since beer production does not begin at the factory, but at the stage of growing the ingredients.

He stressed that currently Russian hops cover only 3-5% of the industry's needs, so the development of hop production is considered as a key direction for the formation of a full-fledged national product.

The second group of requirements will relate to production assets and processes used in the production of beer.

On the same day, Andrey Razin, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, said that hop production in Russia has the potential to increase more than sevenfold to 2 thousand tons by 2060. According to the deputy minister, government support measures are already in place in the industry, including programs for planting and caring for perennial plants. Hops are included in the category of crops to which these mechanisms apply.
