- The media learned about Ireland's offer of money to Ukrainians for leaving for their homeland
Ukrainians living in Ireland will be offered a "generous" package of cash assistance for returning home in the amount of €2.5 thousand per person, as the government plans to terminate all refugee accommodation contracts within 12 months. This was reported on April 19 by The Sunday Times newspaper.
"They will have to leave because we are terminating the contracts. And here timing is crucial. We have a clear direction. I want us to complete this process within the next 12 months," said the Minister for Migration from the Fine Gael partyColm Brophy.
He added that Irish lawmakers are already working on a return policy that will coincide with the repeal of the directive and offer them financial support to return to Ukraine. Currently, asylum seekers can apply for up to €2.5 thousand per person or up to €10 thousand per family to return to their country of origin.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, during a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Berlin on April 14, said he was ready to assist in the return of Ukrainian men of military age who are in Germany. He noted that the authorities plan to simplify the process of their return to their homeland as much as possible.
On April 7, Merz demanded that Zelensky stop the flight of Ukrainians to Europe. The German politician stressed that the Kiev authorities need to ensure the employment of their own citizens in their state.
