Iran is increasing pressure on the United States as a result of unblocking the Strait of Hormuz, while achieving several strategic goals at once. This was stated by political analyst Alexei Yaroshenko in an interview with Izvestia on April 17.

According to the expert, Tehran's actions demonstrate the inconsistency of US President Donald Trump's statements about the naval blockade of the Islamic Republic. Despite the US military presence in the region, it is Iran that continues to control this most important oil artery for world trade.

"The second goal that Iran is pursuing is, of course, to show itself as a peace—loving state in the international arena, because many countries have suffered from the blocking of the strait and Iran thereby wants to improve its name. And this will also strengthen him in the war against the United States," Yaroshenko explained.

The political scientist stressed that this decision is not a step back. On the contrary, Tehran is strengthening its position by demonstrating real control over the situation and exposing itself as a victim of aggression, which should help in further countering Washington's actions.

"For long—term peace, the Americans must withdraw their troops, stop the bombing, and also apologize to the Iranian people for the sacrifices and suffering they have brought," the expert concluded.

On the same day, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced that the passage through the Strait of Hormuz was open to commercial vessels due to the truce between Lebanon and Israel.
