Major General Alexander Bratyshko has been suspended from his duties as head of the Vostok operational Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) due to the loss of control over the city of Seversk in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). This was reported by the Ukrainska Pravda newspaper on April 16, citing sources.

According to journalists, Major General Viktor Nikolyuk, who previously headed the 20th Army Corps, has been appointed the new head of the Vostok command.

Sources of the publication emphasize that Bratishko's resignation followed the same scenario as the recent dismissal of the commander of the 11th Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Sergei Sirchenko - both officers were stripped of their posts due to the retreat of Ukrainian units from Seversk.

The city of Seversk in the DPR was liberated by the Russian army in December last year. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the settlement a significant Russian city and stressed that the Russian Army liberated it in the most difficult situation, overcoming the enemy's layered defenses.

Political scientist Alexei Yaroshenko, in an interview with Izvestia, noted that the liberation of Seversk is of great importance for the Russian Federation — politically, ideologically and symbolically. He noted that the city's population had been waiting for liberation from the Kiev regime for several years.
