Pistorius said Russia's allegedly frivolous attitude to the negotiations on Ukraine
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Russia had allegedly never seriously considered negotiations on a peaceful settlement in Ukraine. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine on April 16.
"The so-called Russian-Ukrainian peace talks have been suspended for now. But the truth is that Russia has never taken them seriously," Pistorius said.
He added that now it is even more important for the EU countries to support Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on April 12 that after the Russian army reached the borders of the new regions of the country, a difficult negotiation process would begin. According to him, during this lengthy process, the parties will have to determine all the details of the settlement of the conflict with Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on April 10 that the conflict in Ukraine cannot be overcome without security guarantees for the Russian Federation. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry added that the Ukrainian leadership "did not give a damn" both on the requirements of the EU and on its own Constitution. According to Lavrov, this is "obvious to everyone."
Lavrov said on April 9 that contacts on the Ukrainian issue were continuing, while the Russian side had not seen prospects for resuming dialogue for a long time amid the busy work of American mediators on other issues. He clarified that negotiations on Ukraine did not stop, but were conducted in a non-public sphere.
