- Peskov pointed to Europe's attempts to cover up short-sighted decisions with ideology.
European countries are trying to cover up short-sighted economic decisions with ideology. This was announced on April 12 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
"You know, the Europeans are trying to disguise their short-sighted decisions with some kind of ideological approach, saying that Russia is a fiend from hell, Russia is a threat to the whole of Europe," he told Vesti journalist Pavel Zarubin.
The spokesman added that Europe's competitive advantages had previously been based on two factors: cheap energy from Russia and free security from the United States. However, none of these advantages currently exist anymore.
Peskov also recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin, from the very beginning of his presidency, has repeatedly stressed that mutual dependence in the economy is an important factor in protecting against political risks.
The Russian leader said on March 27 that Russia's relations with European countries are in crisis, and not through Moscow's fault. According to him, it was Europe and the United States that supported the coup in Ukraine, which caused a "chain of tragic events." Putin also stressed that the Russian side has never refused to restore relations with European countries.
