The "perfect stress-free day" trend popular on social media does not reflect users' dreams, but accumulated fatigue and overload in everyday life. Olga Kushnareva, a practicing psychologist and psychotherapist, told Izvestia about this on April 9.

According to the expert, such publications do not reflect the desire for a beautiful picture, but the inner state of people and accumulated fatigue.

"When a person starts fantasizing about a day where "nothing annoys him," it means that in reality there are too many stimuli and the psyche is looking for at least some sense of control and relaxation. Social media here becomes a way to exhale and say, "This would be fine for me," the expert noted.

As the psychologist explained, nature, silence and the slow rhythm of life most often appear in such images. This is due to the fact that the psyche strives for what it lacks in everyday life — security, calmness and predictability.

The expert stressed that the trend is directly related to the overload of the urban environment and the constant information pressure. According to her, people live in a continuous stimulation mode — notifications, work, news and tasks leave no room for recovery.

As a result, a request is generated for simplicity and reducing the number of external signals. That is why images of cottages, nature, or secluded vacations where constant engagement is not required are becoming popular.

At the same time, the specialist noted that many perceive such a lifestyle as something unattainable without radical changes. However, according to her, this is a cognitive trap.

"It's easier for the psyche to create a beautiful picture of the future than to admit that even in your current life you can change something with small steps. For example, you can remove unnecessary stimuli, reduce the digital load, add silence, movement, and pauses. But to do this, you need to take responsibility for changes, and not just dream," she explained.

The expert concluded that the trend reflects several basic needs at once: safety, control, proper rest and a simpler rhythm of life.

Psychologist Tatiana Smirnova said on April 7 that satisfaction from other people's failures is associated with mechanisms of social competition and protection of self-esteem. The expert noted that such a reaction is formed as a result of social comparison and the desire to reduce the feeling of threat.
