In the Alpha system: teenagers have submitted almost a million resumes for job search
Young people aged 14-17 began to actively look for work — in 2025 there were already 1.5 times more of them than in 2023. They published about a million resumes, Izvestia found out. Traditionally, young applicants respond to the positions of waiter, packer or courier. But lately, they are increasingly trying to get into creative specialties — SMM management, copywriting, design. Businesses are ready to consider teenagers as job seekers amid a shortage of staff. How to find a job for a minor is in the Izvestia article.
Employment of teenagers in Russia
Teenagers aged 14-17 posted more than 940,000 job search resumes in 2025. Young job seekers register on various platforms.
On hh.ru They submitted 840,000 resumes, which is 11% more than in 2025 and 1.5 times more than in 2023, according to calculations. hh.ru and a single model of career guidance "Ticket to the future" (Izvestia has it). According to the estimates of "Work.Last year, minors posted just over 100,000 new or updated resumes.
Most often, in their free time, teenagers worked as catering staff, salesmen or cashiers, couriers, promoters or animators, the SuperJob press service noted. At the same time, there has been a recent increase in interest in creative and digital professions.
According to the data hh.ru In the second half of 2025, the largest number of responses from young applicants accounted for vacancies for programmers and developers (over 49 thousand), SMM and content managers (over 67 thousand), marketing managers (61 thousand), designers and artists (over 46 thousand), as well as copywriters and editors (over 68 thousand).
At the beginning of 2026, young people continue to actively enter the labor market. Their average salary expectations reached 16.7 thousand rubles per month. Among the popular destinations are florists (an increase in interest of 32%, to 28.5 thousand) and office managers (an increase of 29%, to 35.6 thousand). At the same time, according to SuperJob, 12% of parents of teenagers reported working part—time during the school year, and 25% during the summer holidays.
In 2023, 602,000 citizens aged 14 to 18 were temporarily employed through the Rabota Rossii recruitment centers, and 631,000 each in 2024 and 2025, the press service of the Ministry of Labor told Izvestia. Despite the fact that there is no pronounced growth trend, the numbers remain high from year to year. This indicates the systemic interest of teenagers in work.
Most often, schoolchildren and students chose part-time jobs in agriculture and culture. They worked as library staff, landscape designers, and also gained their first experience in editorial offices, laboratories, and dispatch services. All work is formalized by a temporary employment contract with full compliance with guarantees for minors, the department clarified.
Why companies have become more likely to hire minors
The companies themselves are ready to consider teenagers as job seekers. For example, there are now more than 32,000 such invitations for the position of copywriter or editor, and over 15,000 for the position of SMM manager, according to calculations. hh.ru The key reason why there are more and more vacancies for minors is the shortage of personnel. The country has an extremely low unemployment rate of 2.2%.
— In conditions of staff shortage, teenagers become an important reserve. They cannot completely replace adult employees, but they close some basic positions and reduce the burden on the business. In fact, this is one of the few available sources to cover the shortage of personnel without increasing salaries and robotization of production. Therefore, their share in the labor market will gradually grow," said Vladimir Chernov, analyst at Freedom Finance Global.
Many schoolchildren are motivated by the desire for early financial independence and the opportunity to have their own money, said Ekaterina Kashtanova, Associate Professor at the Department of Personnel Management at the State University of Management (GUU). This is especially true now — during a period of rising prices, parents are sometimes simply unable to satisfy their child's desires, she believes.
Today, teenagers are already starting to think about a career path by the age of 16-17, but they choose not only a profession as such, but also a way of self-realization that they understand and are internally close to, says Ivan Yesin, managing director of the Foundation for Humanitarian Projects, operator of the Ticket to the Future EMP project. It is important for young people to see practical meaning, quick results, the opportunity to try, make mistakes and accumulate their own experience. Therefore, students are increasingly interested in creative and digital trends.
How to start working as a teenager
As a general rule, an employment contract is concluded from the age of 16, said Yulia Pavlova, a lawyer and member of the Union of Bloggers and Lawyers. However, the law makes it possible to start working earlier.
At the age of 14, this can be done with the written consent of one of the parents. At the same time, a teenager should already have a general education or receive it, but work should not interfere with his studies, the expert explained. Children under this age can only work in the field of cinema, theater and circus.
At the age of 15, it is allowed to conclude an employment contract if the teenager has already received basic general education or continues his studies after school. Additional guarantees are provided for employees under the age of 18: mandatory medical examination, a ban on performing dangerous and underground work, as well as employment in areas that can harm morals (including gambling, nightclubs, and alcohol and tobacco sales). In addition, business trips, overtime and night shifts are excluded for them, Yulia Pavlova said.
The length of the working day for minors is also fixed by law.:
Teenagers between the ages of 14 and 15 can work four hours.;
Five hours — between the ages of 15 and 16;
seven hours — between the ages of 16 and 17.
Teenagers in Russia are also interested in starting their own business: the number of sole proprietors opened by teenagers from 14 to 17 years old has been at the level of 1,000 in Russia over the past three years, the press service of the SME Corporation told Izvestia. Most often, young people register their business in the field of trade — almost 50%. Other popular areas include the service sector and computer software development. They added that for young people, starting a business is primarily an opportunity for self—expression and working on a flexible schedule.
