In the year of the 65th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's flight, the celebration acquires a scale worthy of its significance for our country and the world. Established by the decision of the President of Russia, Space Week will become an annual event starting in 2026," Ksenia Danilenko, director of the Information Policy Department at Roscosmos State Corporation, told Izvestia.
Starting from April 6, a series of scientific, educational, cultural and creative events will start in the regions of Russia, she said. Schools will host "Conversations about important things" classes, where students will learn about the history of near-Earth space exploration and modern space technologies that surround humans in everyday life. Students will also learn how to become an astronaut.
On the second day, the key educational platform will be the Valentina Tereshkova National Space Center, where the educational marathon "Space with Knowledge" will be held. It will bring together more than a thousand students, young professionals and experts. The program includes live broadcasts from orbit: astronauts from the ISS will answer questions from participants in real time.
The industry forum of active youth "Team of the Future" will be held on April 8 at the site of the Moscow Aviation Institute. More than 200 young specialists from the rocket and space industry will take part in the project sessions and expert discussions.
On April 9, the first Russian Space Forum will bring together representatives of government, science and business at the Rossiya National Center. It will become a platform for discussion and decision-making on the development of Russian cosmonautics. Projects for the development of near-Earth orbits, lunar programs and interplanetary missions will be presented at it.
Where to look at meteorites and learn about flights to Mars
As part of Space Week, leading Russian educational organizations will open their doors to visitors. For example, Lomonosov Moscow State University invites you to take guided tours of the MSU Mission Control Center, where data and telemetry are received from spacecraft created by students.
In addition, at the University's Laboratory of Electronic Accelerators, guests will be able to get acquainted with the use of such facilities for sterilization of products and testing of nuclear reactors. At the Space Weather Analysis Center of the Skobeltsyn Moscow State University Research Institute of Nuclear Physics, visitors will learn about forecasting magnetic storms and the potential danger of solar flares.
One of the highlights of the Week will be the Youth Space Engineering Congress, which will be held on April 11 at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University in Moscow. A round table will be organized on the projects of the international manned expedition to Mars with the participation of Russia.
On the occasion of Cosmonautics Day, the Polytechnic Museum, together with the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the P.K. Sternberg State Astronomical Institute, prepared a family festival for children and adults. Participants will be able to chat with test cosmonaut Oleg Blinov, study meteorites under a microscope, and visit the historic Krasnopresnenskaya Observatory.
— Space Week is an opportunity to show the close connection of fundamental science with real practical tasks. By popularizing space research, we explain that space is not an abstract romance, but an advanced field of science and technology, where future technologies are being created," Dmitry Kozhanov, General Director of the Polytechnic Museum, told Izvestia.
According to him, for some, these meetings and excursions can be the first step to the stars or the beginning of a career as a spacecraft designer.
How to participate in a flash mob and try space food
One of the significant events in the cultural program of Space Week will be the release of the film "My Dog is an Astronaut" on April 9. The film tells the story of a friendship between a man and a dog named Belka, who unexpectedly becomes a participant in a space mission. On the same day, the Association of Film Distributors of Russia organizes free screenings of the documentary Gagarin in 300 cinemas. Embracing the World", dedicated to the significance of the first human spaceflight for the whole world.

The sports flash mob "Start to the Stars" will cover 12 regions of the country on April 11. This "space training" includes a series of activities, each of which will be associated with symbolic numbers for the era: 65 years from the day of the first flight, 108 minutes of stay in space and the speed of the Vostok-1 spacecraft — 28 thousand km/ h.
On April 12, Cosmonautics Day, a solemn concert and an awards ceremony for employees of the rocket and space industry will be held at the country's main concert venue, the State Kremlin Palace.
— Space Week is a large—scale national initiative that unites hundreds of events across the country. These are educational, scientific, and cultural events that reveal the theme of space from different angles. Everyone can take part in the program," added Ksenia Danilenko from Roscosmos.
According to her, a series of thematic dictation sessions will be organized for those who want to test their knowledge during Space Week. The largest of them will take place on April 12 at the Cosmonautics and Aviation Center at VDNH.
In addition, Russia hosts the National Gastronomic Festival "Firsts in Space", which presents the theme of extraterrestrial activity through gastronomy. It started on April 1 and will last until the end of the month. More than 70 restaurants from 18 regions are participating in the project; at each of these sites, visitors are offered special "space" sets from chefs - three dishes and a drink.
— The most important thing is that Space Week draws attention to space education. We hope that interest in it will continue not only this week, but also in the future. In addition, many national space-related competitions are held in April. This is an opportunity for schoolchildren and students to express themselves, take part and understand what they are interested in in this area," said Ilya Ovchinnikov, a space engineer.
According to him, if earlier on Cosmonautics Day the main focus was on the past, today it is important that young specialists discuss promising projects during Space Week. He also stressed the importance of summarizing and evaluating the results achieved over the past period.
