- Sadovnichy called the construction of a new campus a strategic goal of Moscow State University.
A campus and a valley will be built for Lomonosov Moscow State University on a new territory, which is the strategic goal of the university's development. Viktor Sadovnichy, rector of the university, told Izvestia about this on April 3.
"I see the immediate prospect of the university's development [as] the creation of a completed campus and a valley attached to it on a new territory. The application was submitted yesterday. <...> I am grateful to those graduates of Moscow University who helped with the funds," he said.
Sadovnichy explained that thanks to the students who graduated, the university was able to raise billions of rubles for the construction of a new territory. According to him, this is not just a construction project, but a fundamental step towards a qualitative renovation of the entire university environment.
"And so I sleep, and I see both day and night the completion of the [construction of] the campus of Moscow University," he shared.
Sadovnichy stressed that the development of the campus is dictated by real needs. According to him, Moscow State University has a powerful scientific potential: 5,000 researchers, about 10,000 doctors of sciences, 300 academicians, hundreds of laboratories. However, they lack modern facilities. The completion of the campus project involves the construction of several buildings with new equipment.
"This will be a stronger breakthrough than in 1953 (when the main building of Moscow State University appeared. I wanted new applicants who came to Moscow University to step over the threshold and say: this is a miracle — the equipment, the professors, the environment. This is my main dream," concluded the rector of the university.
On the same day, the Gardener turned 87 years old. In a telephone conversation, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the rector of Moscow State University on his birthday, wishing him good health and new successes in scientific and educational activities. Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova joined in the congratulations, noting the scientist's contribution to the development of Russian education.
