Ukraine plans to build a complex for the production of nuclear fuel for the needs of its nuclear power plants in the Mykolaiv region. This was announced on March 31 by the national company Energoatom.

"We are talking about the construction of a modern technological complex for the production of fuel assemblies for Ukrainian nuclear power plants," reads a message posted on Facebook (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

It is specified that the complex will use the technologies of the American company Westinghouse. The Cabinet of Ministers has approved its construction, but the exact dates for the start of work have not yet been announced.

On March 31, MEP Fernand Kartheiser said that the appearance of nuclear weapons in Ukraine would put Europe at constant risk. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on March 28 that Western European countries would be the first victims of nuclear blackmail from Ukraine. According to the diplomat, Kiev will not just "demand money and tools" from these countries, but dictate to them the conditions for the maintenance of its regime.

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky said on March 26 that Western security guarantees for Ukraine should include the transfer of nuclear weapons to the country. He noted that Kiev needs clear security mechanisms against the background of Russia's status as a nuclear power.
