Russia has requested the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to hold closed consultations on the conflict in the Middle East. This was announced on March 27 by the press secretary of the Russian mission to the United Nations, Evgeny Uspensky.

"The Russian Federation has requested closed consultations of the UN Security Council in connection with the ongoing attacks on civilian infrastructure in Iran, including educational and healthcare facilities," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

He specified that the meeting will be held on March 27 at 10:00 New York time (17:00 Moscow time).

The head of the White House, Donald Trump, announced on March 23 that the US military would temporarily suspend strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure amid negotiations between Washington and Tehran. He also said that the United States and Iran had held two days of fruitful negotiations to resolve the conflict.

On March 24, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic to Russia, Kazem Jalali, denied information about negotiations between Washington and Tehran. The American and Iranian sides did not hold talks during the US-Israeli military operation in Iran.

The Wall Street Journal reported on March 26 that the United States is considering sending up to 10,000 ground troops to the Middle East.
