Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of Russia for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, joked on March 25 that the post-apocalyptic world from the movie "Mad Max: Fury Road" would soon become a reality for the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom.

"I'm sorry, but it looks like next month it will be more like the EU or the UK," Dmitriev commented on a fragment from the film in which the characters participate in a deadly race for a tanker truck.

Mad Max: Fury Road, directed by George Miller, tells the story of Australia after a nuclear war. According to the plot of the film, the population is fighting for the remaining resources such as food, water, fuel and others.

On March 18, Politico reported on growing concern in Europe amid growing global competition for energy resources due to the ongoing near-complete blockade of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. According to a number of European officials and experts, the high demands of Brussels on the volume of reserves contribute to higher prices, while excessive regulation of LNG supplies reduces the competitiveness of the European market for global exporters.

The head of the Shell oil company, Wael Sawan, said on March 25 that Europe could face shortages of fuel and energy resources in the coming weeks if the situation around the Strait of Hormuz does not change. He added that the crisis, which has been going on for the fourth week, has already affected the supply of aviation fuel, the price of which has doubled since the beginning of the conflict.
