Water levels on the rivers of the Moscow region during the spring flood are predicted to be higher than normal, and flooding is expected earlier than usual, said Artem Ivanitsky, deputy head of the regional Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for Civil Defense and Population Protection.

"We expect the flood dates to be early, slightly higher than normal," he said at a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya international press center dedicated to the preparedness of the Moscow region for spring floods and the fire season.

According to the agency, the filling of reservoirs in the Moscow region now accounts for almost 67% of the total volume.

On March 6, the Russian Hydrometeorological Center published a report from which it follows that in the Central, Volga, Siberian and Far Eastern Federal Districts — in 36 Russian regions — flooding is possible, during which the water level in rivers will significantly exceed the norm.
