- The political scientist predicted the course of the conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan
The conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan will continue in a fairly active phase for at least several weeks. This opinion was expressed by Vladimir Shapovalov, a political scientist, member of the Board of the Russian Association of Political Science, project manager of the EISI, on Tuesday, March 24.
Earlier that day, Pakistan's Air Force violated Afghanistan's airspace immediately after the deadline for the suspension of hostilities between the two countries expired on March 23. Air defense systems are firing at Pakistani military aircraft in the north of the country, Regnum news agency reports.
Shapovalov noted that the conflict between the two countries has been dragging on for several years, at least since the radical Islamic Taliban movement came to power in Afghanistan. He added that in the last few weeks we have been talking about the escalation of the conflict and its escalation into an active phase of military clashes.
"We see that they go, so to speak, in a flickering way: they arise, then there is a pause related to the negotiation process, then a new exchange of blows resumes," the expert said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
According to the political scientist, the intensity of the conflict will not increase.
"Most likely, we will be talking about sporadic exchanges of blows and periodic skirmishes on the border," he concluded.
On March 18, Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid announced that Afghanistan had temporarily stopped fighting against Pakistan at the request of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
On the same day, the special representative of the Russian president for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, said that Russia was concerned about the aggravation of relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan and was ready to act as an intermediary in the appeal of both countries, RT reports.
In turn, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia is deeply concerned about the confrontation between Pakistan and Afghanistan and again calls for resolving differences through diplomacy. 360.ru .
