The obsession of the European Union (EU) countries with Russia and the lack of unifying leaders is the reason for the bloc's impotence. This was announced on March 21 by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.

"The most noticeable thing about the state of the European Union is its impotence. This helplessness is due to the lack of a common foreign policy, real leaders who could unite the EU, and the fact that most member states are obsessed with the Russian Federation. These are bad traits for success," Fico said.

He also noted that it is necessary to carry out "personnel changes" in the EU.

"The first replacement that I would make would be the replacement of the so—called Minister of Foreign Affairs, the former Prime Minister of Estonia, Ms. [Kai] Kallas," the Slovak Prime Minister said.

According to him, French President Emmanuel Macron could become the real leader of the EU at the moment.

Von der Leyen on Monday, March 9, called for reform of the EU institutions and its doctrine. According to her, if the EU considers it necessary to have a more realistic and interest-oriented foreign policy, then the bloc should be able to implement it.

On March 3, the Politico newspaper reported on the recognition by the European Union of impotence in the conflict in the Middle East. According to one of the unnamed EU diplomats, the bloc did not prepare for this conflict and now acts as a bystander. It was clarified that the EU does not have enough leverage in the region to take significant steps.
