- The Russian Foreign Ministry called on Afghanistan and Pakistan to abandon confrontation
Russia is deeply concerned about the confrontation between Pakistan and Afghanistan and once again calls for resolving differences through diplomacy. This was announced on March 18 at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"We are deeply concerned about the ongoing military confrontation between our friendly countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan, which has tragic consequences for the civilian population," she said.
Zakharova stressed that the Russian Federation once again urges states to abandon the "dead-end course of confrontation" and resolve differences through political and diplomatic means.
On March 16, the Roya News portal reported a series of powerful explosions in Kabul. It was noted that the epicenters were located in the areas of Wazir Akbar Khan and Shahr-e-Nav. Later it became known that the rehabilitation center for drug addicts was attacked. As a result of the strike, about 400 people were killed. On the same day, the Pakistani military attacked military infrastructure facilities in the Afghan capital and in Nangarhar province.
Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Mateen Kani said on March 17 that Pakistan would soon receive a "crushing response" after an airstrike on a drug treatment center in Kabul.
Russian President Vladimir Putin's special Envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, in turn, noted that Moscow is ready to act as a mediator in the conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan if both sides turn to it for help.
