- The media reported a possible depletion of US air defense missile stocks due to Iranian drone attacks
Iran's attacks using low-cost drones are putting a serious strain on the American air defense system, depleting stocks of expensive interceptor missiles. This was reported by the 19FortyFive portal.
"As the conflict drags on, waves of attacks using inexpensive weapons are increasingly being observed, threatening to deplete stocks of expensive American air defense systems," the article says.
It clarifies that the relatively low cost of producing Shahed drones is worrisome compared to the much more expensive weapons used to shoot them down.
The authors note that American air defense systems use interceptor missiles worth from 3 to $12 million each to destroy these drones. At the same time, US troops have to use weapons with long production times, which makes it difficult to replace them.
On the same day, the UAE Ministry of Defense announced that since the beginning of Iran's attacks, the country's air defense systems had intercepted 304 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles and 1,627 drones. The agency clarified that the latest attack included six ballistic missiles and 21 drones.
On March 14, Iran warned of impending strikes on three UAE ports in response to the attack on the island of Kharq, which is under the control of Tehran. A notification was sent to local residents demanding that they immediately leave the territories around the ports of Fujairah, Khalifa and Jebel Ali.
