Turkey has significantly increased exports of vegetables and some types of fruits to Russia over the past two weeks due to the aggravation of the situation around Iran. This was announced on Monday, March 16, by the TASS news agency, citing sources in the export circles of the Mediterranean region of the republic.

According to industry representatives, the bulk of supplies come from the Antalya region. The list of shipped products includes tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and eggplants, as well as an increase in shipments of citrus fruits.

"Our companies operating in wholesale warehouses specializing in exports have begun to receive an unusual number of orders to Russia in recent years. Exports have really grown," Nevzat Akjan, head of the Antalya Association of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Sales Agents, confirmed to the agency.

Akjan clarified that there are currently no difficulties with paying for current supplies. Goods are transported to Russia both by road and by sea. He added that accurate data on the number of products will appear later, when statistics are generated.

The easing of US sanctions gives Japan, South Korea and a number of other countries the opportunity to diversify supplies.
