Two boats carrying protesters against the construction of an American military base capsized in Okinawa Prefecture in southern Japan, killing two people. This was reported on March 16 by the Japanese NHK TV channel.
"Two boats carrying high school students from Kyoto Prefecture as part of a study trip capsized off the coast of Henoko, Nago City, Okinawa Prefecture, where construction work is underway to relocate the US Marine Corps Futenma Air Base," the publication says.
It is noted that as a result of the incident, one student and the captain were killed, about 10 people received minor injuries, and several more participants in the incident are missing. Rescuers continue the search operation, NHK writes.
