The escalation observed in the Middle East, in particular the military actions of Iran, the United States and Israel, could lead to environmental and radiological disasters for the region. This was announced on March 12 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"It is necessary to immediately stop the military actions that threaten a catastrophe. Now we can see that the entire region is threatened by all this. And, of course, it is necessary to return to the search for diplomatic solutions as soon as possible," she said at a briefing.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry clarified that Moscow is deeply concerned about the rapid escalation of the conflict in the designated area, which was initially predicted by the Russian side. According to her, the Israeli-American "military adventure" has already affected the territories of many Arab states located in the Persian Gulf.

Zakharova said on the same day that Russia confirms Iran's right to self-defense and calls on Washington and Tel Aviv to immediately stop their aggression against the Islamic Republic. According to her, there is an "extremely difficult" humanitarian situation in the region where the fighting is taking place. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that Moscow will continue to take steps to end the escalation as soon as possible and resolve the contradictions by peaceful means.
