The doctor told about the signs of endometriosis
One of the key signs of endometriosis is considered to be chronic pelvic pain, which worsens a few days before menstruation and does not go away after taking antispasmodics. Nadezhda Petrunina, chief specialist of the network of clinics "Be Healthy" in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, told Izvestia about this on March 13, World Endometriosis Awareness Day.
According to the doctor, endometriosis is a complex and multifactorial disease that is becoming more common every year. Its symptoms are often hidden or manifest as mild soreness, which makes early diagnosis difficult. But there are several main signs that may indicate the presence of endometriosis.
As Petrunina noted, chronic pelvic pain is not just painful menstruation that can be experienced. If the pain worsens a few days before the start of menstruation and does not go away after taking antispasmodics, this may be a symptom of endometriosis.
Endometriosis can cause infertility for several reasons. Firstly, inflammation and the formation of adhesions in the abdominal cavity disrupt the patency of the fallopian tubes and interfere with ovulation. Secondly, chronic inflammation damages the eggs, reducing their quality and ability to fertilize. In addition, changes in the uterine cavity may interfere with normal embryo implantation.
Petrunina emphasized that endometriosis affects all aspects of a woman's life: physical health, mental and emotional state, social activity and personal relationships. Chronic pain and waiting for the next attack can lead to anxiety and depression, which further impairs the quality of life.
"The good news is that medicine does not stand still. Today we are not just "treating the consequences", but managing the disease. The approach is always comprehensive and individual," the specialist noted.
Treatment includes drug therapy, chemotherapy, as well as surgical methods to remove the foci of the disease. In some cases, when a woman suffers from infertility, in vitro fertilization (IVF) is used, as well as new methods aimed at improving fertility.
On January 28, Gunai Salayeva, a reproductive therapist, obstetrician-gynecologist, and gynecologist-endocrinologist, called habits dangerous for women's health. Smoking accelerates the depletion of the ovarian reserve, leads to early menopause, damages eggs and reduces the likelihood of conception. In addition, women who smoke have increased risks of ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, placental abruption, premature birth, and low birth weight.
