Von der Leyen called for urgent reform of EU institutions for the current time
The head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen on Monday, March 9, called for the reform of the institutions of the European Union (EU) and its doctrine.
"We urgently need to think about whether our doctrine, our institutions and the decision—making process developed in the post-war world of stability and multilateralism are in line with the pace of change around us," she said during a conference of EU permanent representatives in Brussels.
According to her, if the EU considers it necessary to have a more realistic and interest-oriented foreign policy, then the bloc should be able to implement it.
On March 3, the Politico newspaper reported on the recognition by the European Union of impotence in the conflict in the Middle East. According to one of the unnamed EU diplomats, the bloc did not prepare for this conflict and now acts as a bystander. It was clarified that the EU does not have enough leverage in the region to take significant steps.
