Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a telephone conversation with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaki. This was reported on March 6 on the website of the Russian diplomatic mission.

"The sides exchanged views on the situation in the region, including the negative destabilizing consequences of aggression against Iran. We discussed the prospects for reducing military and political tensions in Afghan-Pakistani relations," the statement said.

Lavrov stressed the need to resolve the differences between Kabul and Islamabad through political and diplomatic means.

On March 4, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Russia and Iraq were calling on the parties to the conflict in the Middle East to refrain from attacking civilian infrastructure. It was noted that it was important for the parties to cease fire and return to a diplomatic settlement.

At the same time, speaking about the Pakistan-Afghanistan conflict, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on February 27 that Russia was counting on the cessation of hostilities between the two countries. The presidential spokesman added that the Russian Federation is monitoring developments on the border of the two countries, while stressing that it is too early to draw any conclusions.
