Iran has attacked American radar systems at bases in Jordan and the UAE to weaken air and missile defenses. The United States is strengthening its presence in the region and using its overseas bases to support operations against Iran. At the same time, the U.S. House of Representatives rejected a resolution limiting President Trump's powers, thus providing parliament's support for his military operation. How foreign media assess the situation in the region is in the Izvestia digest.

CNN: Radar bases with key American missile interceptors hit in Jordan and the UAE

Iran, according to satellite imagery, is attacking American radar systems at military bases in the Arabian Peninsula. The goal is probably to weaken air and missile defense systems that detect incoming missiles and drones.

CNN

Radar is a key element of a high-level missile interception system designed to detect and destroy ballistic missiles during their flight to a target. The United States uses eight THAAD mobile ground—based anti-missile systems, while the UAE has two and Saudi Arabia has one. The destroyed radar was located at the Muwaffaq Salti air base in Jordan, more than 500 miles from Iran.

This radar was a key part of the ballistic missile interception system and cost almost $0.5 billion. Strikes were also recorded on military installations in the UAE — in the areas of Ruwais and Sader, where THAAD batteries are located. Buildings where radar systems are located or maintained have been damaged, but it is still unclear whether the radars themselves have been destroyed.

Sky News: Royal Navy destroyer will arrive in Cyprus too late

The Royal Navy destroyer will arrive in Cyprus only next week, although the island is already under attack due to the presence of the British military. One of the drones was able to fly undetected low over the sea and hit a hangar at the Akrotiri base, commonly used for American U2 reconnaissance aircraft.

The warning system at the base is quite primitive. Therefore, sirens are turned on out of caution, and not necessarily because a rocket is really approaching. Nevertheless, it underscores the threat to the island, which is very close to Lebanon and its Iranian ally— Hezbollah.

Meanwhile, the French frigate Languedoc has already arrived at the shores of Cyprus, while the British destroyer is just preparing to leave. Initially, London did not allow the United States to use British bases for strikes against Iran. However, he later changed his position, saying that American attacks on Iranian missile installations were helping to protect the region and British interests. At the same time, the British Defense Minister did not rule out the possibility of the country's participation in offensive strikes.

Al Jazeera: how did the sinking of the Iranian ship affect India's role in the region

India positions itself as the main guarantor of security in the Indian Ocean. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has previously stated that the Indian Navy is the "guardian" of this region. However, the situation changed dramatically after the Iranian warship IRIS Dena, returning from international naval exercises, was sunk by an American submarine near Sri Lanka.

Tehran was enraged by the attack on the ship, which occurred hundreds of miles from its shores. Iran also stressed that IRIS Dena was returning from an exercise to which he was invited by New Delhi. Now IRIS Dena lies at the bottom of the Indian Ocean, and more than 80 Iranian sailors — the very people who participated in joint parades and took pictures with Indian officers during a two—week visit - have died.

The Indian authorities limited themselves to a message about their readiness to help in the rescue operation. At the same time, New Delhi did not criticize the actions of the United States in any way. India finds itself in a difficult situation. If she didn't know about the attack, it casts doubt on her influence in the region. And if she did, it means that she actually supported the United States and Israel in the conflict with Iran.

Al Arabiya: The United States is confident in the plan of war against Iran

The United States says it is confident in its military plan against Iran. Admiral Brad Cooper, head of the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM), said that the US military had studied Iran's capabilities well and had initially built a strategy based on these factors. According to him, as the fighting develops, the plan is constantly being adjusted.

Al Arabiya

For the first time, the United States used a new unit of kamikaze drones during an operation against Iran. These drones were developed after the US military had been capturing and dismantling Iranian models for several years. The intensity of Iranian attacks has decreased significantly since the beginning of the war. Ballistic missile strikes decreased by 90% compared to the first day of combat, while drone attacks decreased by 83%.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that the intensity of American strikes on Iran will soon increase significantly. He noted that some allies, including Britain, had allowed the United States to use its overseas bases to support the operation. Hegseth also stressed that the United States has enough resources and ammunition to conduct a campaign for a long time.

ABC News: the United States rejected a resolution on limiting Trump's powers in Iran

The U.S. House of Representatives has not passed a resolution on military powers that could limit President Donald Trump's actions in Iran. The resolution failed with a score of 212 against 219. At the same time, only two representatives of the Republican Party — Thomas Massie and Warren Davidson — supported the resolution.

ABC News

The resolution, which only expresses the position of Congress, called on the US president to stop using the country's armed forces in combat operations against Iran or any part of the Iranian government or army, unless war is declared or a special law is passed authorizing the use of military force. In any case, this initiative would be optional.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson said that the United States is not at war, but is conducting a defensive operation. He also said that the adoption of the resolution now would weaken the forces of the American army and would help the enemies. At the same time, US President Donald Trump has already called the conflict with Iran a "war" and said that everything is going well at the front.
