Hungary will form a commission to determine the condition of the Druzhba oil pipeline
The Hungarian government is creating a commission to determine the condition of the Druzhba oil pipeline, while demanding that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky allow inspectors to enter. This was announced on March 4 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban after a meeting of the country's Defense Council.
"We have decided to create a commission to investigate the circumstances [of the pipeline blockage] under the leadership of the Secretary of State [of the Hungarian Ministry of Energy] Gabor Tsepek. Her task is to assess the real condition of the Druzhba oil pipeline in place," Orban said on M1 TV channel.
In addition, the Prime Minister added that Hungary has strengthened the protection of energy facilities in connection with a possible sabotage by Kiev. He said that Zelensky plans to block all Russian oil supplies through Ukraine, so many facilities that used such energy resources could become a target for Kiev.
On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that European countries had not asked Russia for energy supplies. However, he noted that Russian oil still has its buyers. At the same time, according to Peskov, Hungary and Slovakia are currently facing blackmail from Kiev, in particular with the blocking of supplies through the Druzhba oil pipeline.
On February 26, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban demanded that the EU check the condition of the Druzhba pipeline. Orban expressed the opinion that the assessment of the condition of the Druzhba pipeline could help unlock financing for Ukraine from the EU. He noted that he was aware of the political difficulties that had arisen due to the delay in issuing a loan to Ukraine in the amount of €90 billion.
