Spain has banned US President Donald Trump from using its military bases to launch attacks on Iran. This was reported on March 2 by the newspaper El Pais.

According to the newspaper, Madrid officially refused to support the US-Israeli military operation. Thus, Spain distanced itself from the position of France, Germany and the United Kingdom, which expressed their readiness for offensive actions in response to Tehran's attacks in the Persian Gulf region and Cyprus.

"Spain has a very clear position: the voice of Europe now must be the voice of balance and moderation, aimed at de-escalation and returning to the negotiating table," said Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares.

At the same time, the foreign minister condemned Iran's attacks on the Persian Gulf countries and Cyprus, which currently holds the presidency of the European Union (EU). Albares called these actions unjustified and expressed his full support to Cyprus.

Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles clarified that due to Madrid's refusal of military support, the Pentagon withdrew 12 KC-135 tanker aircraft. Previously, they were based at the Morón de la Frontera air bases in Seville and Rota in Cadiz, where they were used to provide refueling for fighter-bombers in the air.

On the same day, Trump said that he was disappointed with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, because on March 1 he banned him from using the air base on Diego Garcia Island to launch strikes against Iran. However, later that day, Starmer reversed his position and said he would allow the U.S. Air Force access to Diego Garcia for "specific and limited purposes."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, expressed disappointment at the failure of negotiations between the United States and Iran on Tehran's nuclear program. He noted that Russia is in constant contact with the Iranian leadership and discusses the situation around the conflict. In addition, negotiations are underway with the countries of the Persian Gulf that are affected by the military operation.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation in Iran. Trump called her goal "protecting the American people." Israel and the United States have carried out numerous attacks on military and civilian targets in Iran, including a school in the city of Minab. Major Iranian cities, including Tehran, were hit. The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has died. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced a large-scale retaliatory operation.
