Rubio denied US strikes on Khamenei and Iran's leadership
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Republican Congressman Mike Turner that the US military did not strike at Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other leaders of the Islamic Republic.
In an interview with Republican Mike Turner from Ohio, CBS News "Face the Nation" anchor Margaret Brennan asked directly if the United States had carried out a strike against Khamenei. Turner said he had spoken with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who "made it very clear that we were not targeting Khamenei and we were not targeting the leadership of Iran," CBS News reported.
According to him, Washington did not seek a change of power in Iran.
Reuters also reported that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will hold a briefing for the leaders of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives on Monday, according to his public schedule, following joint U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation in Iran. Military installations in western Iran, an elementary school in the city of Minab, as well as the residence of the country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was later also killed, were hit. On March 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian in connection with the murder of Khamenei.
