The speech of the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzi, at the UN Security Council was clear and tough. This was announced on March 1 by Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.

"It was emphasized that military strikes should not be aimed at eliminating the top political leadership of the countries," Karasin wrote.

He noted that Nebenzia called the US accusations against Iran of seeking nuclear weapons unfounded, recalling that Tehran was ready for negotiations, and the IAEA had not confirmed the country's plans to develop nuclear weapons.

According to the senator, the speech demanded that the United States and Israel immediately stop aggression and return to a political and diplomatic settlement. Moscow is ready to facilitate such work.

Karasin also drew attention to the position of European countries — Germany, France and Britain limited themselves to statements about non-involvement in strikes on Iran.

Nebenzia said on February 28 that the aggression directed by the United States and Israel against Iran has already led to an aggravation of the situation in the region and may go beyond its borders. The diplomat stressed that the actions of Washington and Tel Aviv risk turning into a humanitarian and economic catastrophe.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation in Iran. US President Donald Trump called it the goal of "protecting the American people." Israel and the United States have carried out numerous attacks on military and civilian targets in Iran, including a school in the city of Minab.

In response, Iran launched Operation True Promise 4 and attacked American military bases in the Middle East, as well as Israeli cities. The UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Oman and other Persian Gulf countries were affected by the Iranian attacks.

Later, on March 1, it became known that the supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed as a result of Israeli attacks. The Iranian government has declared national mourning. An interim governing council has been established in the country. Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian has vowed to avenge Khamenei's death. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences over the death of the Iranian leader and condemned the assassination.
