Arson suspects detained in Novosibirsk region

In the Novosibirsk region, law enforcement agencies detained two young men suspected of intentionally damaging property for hooligan motives. This was reported in the press service of the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Novosibirsk region.

"On February 25, the Central Police Department No. 1 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Novosibirsk received a message about a fire at a gas station located on Military Street. An hour later, a similar message about a fire in the Yuzhny microdistrict was received by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the city of Berdsk," the department's official Facebook channel says.

The police found that in two cases, unknown persons paid for fuel by buying a tank, set fire to gas stations and fled in an unknown direction. The fire was promptly extinguished by the gas station staff. There are no casualties.

During the operational search activities, employees of the Center for Countering Extremism of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (CPE GU MVD), together with colleagues from the territorial police departments and the Office of the FSB of Russia in the Novosibirsk region, identified and detained the suspects. They turned out to be 17-year-old and 18-year-old residents of Novosibirsk and Berdsk, studying in secondary specialized educational institutions.

According to preliminary data, the young people acted on the instructions of external supervisors. According to the police, they had previously clicked on a phishing link in one of the messengers and lost access to their personal accounts on government services. After that, they were contacted by unknown people who introduced themselves as government officials who coordinated their further actions.

Criminal cases have been initiated for each offense under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Intentional destruction or damage to property"). The issue of choosing a preventive measure is currently being resolved, and investigative actions are continuing.

On February 26, eight people, including three minors, were preparing, on the instructions of the special services of Ukraine, a terrorist attack against the head of one of the defense enterprises. In December 2024, they, pursuing the idea of receiving a monetary reward in the amount of at least 1 million rubles, made and attempted to plant an improvised explosive device under the bottom of the would-be victim's car. Two persons sent to install the device were detained red-handed by employees of the FSB of the Russian Federation.
