On February 26, the Smolensk Salvar Search and Rescue Squad reported that the girl had been found alive in an apartment on Marshal Yeremenko Street. During the search, hundreds of objects were examined, including abandoned houses, garages, basements, attics, an old military unit, heating mains, entrances and courtyards.

She was found by a suspicious car caught on camera and a SIM card left inside, as well as by DNA.

What is known about the suspect

On February 26, investigators from the regional directorate of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia, together with the operational staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, detained the suspect in the abduction. He turned out to be 43-year-old Sergey G., who had previously been convicted of drug possession.

A video posted on the Telegram channel of the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk on February 27 shows how the found girl is being taken out of the entrance of an apartment building. This is followed by footage of the arrest and neutralization of the kidnapper.

During the interrogation, the man confessed that he had kept the child in his roommate's apartment.

Results

The investigation will apply for the arrest of the kidnapper. A criminal case has been opened. The Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia qualified the man's actions on the grounds of a crime under Article 126 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Kidnapping"). A preventive measure will be chosen by the court in the near future.
